CPVC pipe is an excellent choice for those who need to replace cast iron pipes that have rusted out.

The only exception to this is the high thermal coefficient of CPVC pipes. It will expand and contract far more than other pipes on exposure to temperature swings. CPVC pipes are safe for use inside of temperature controlled homes, but beware of its use in uninsulated areas. CPVC pipe fittings shouldn’t be used on outdoor faucets, either.

CPVC pipes are better than other plastic pipes when they are exposed to flames or smoke. They won’t catch fire or melt because of their limiting oxygen index. If you install CPVC pipe, you won’t be subject to the horror stories of the sprinkler system water pipes melting before they could deliver water to the fire. On the other hand, PEX pipes can catch fire, and they’ll burn long after the rest of the fire is put out. This adds to the danger to building occupants when the building is on fire.
